26 August 2019, Bandung. A total of 15 volunteers consisting of officials and students from the MARA University of Technology (UiTM) Jasin Campus Melaka Campus collaborated with Lecturers and Students of the Indonesian Education University (UPI) to carry out Community Service (P2M) which was held in Cikole village, Lembang Indonesia sub-district. This program is one of the international community service activities and Technical Visits at the Indonesian Education University organized by the PALAPES Association in collaboration with the Tun Abdul Razak UiTM Library, Jasin campus, Melaka campus.

According to the chief executive, Nurul Azreena Binti Azman, the first international program organized by the Palapes Association outside Malaysia includes various activities that incorporate various STEM elements. In addition to community service in Cikole village, the International Program also received support and cooperation from the Faculty of Economics and Business Education from the Indonesian Education University.

The activities carried out from August 20-25, 2019 were sharing knowledge about teaching and learning activities between UiTM and UPI students, sharing student projects from the Faculty of Computer Science & Mathematics and the Faculty of Plantation & Technology UiTM to the UPI Faculty of Economics & Business Education, regarding the development and robotics learning at UPI, besides that they made an informative visit to the Indonesian Armed Forces Museum.

During the P2M activity in Cikole village, volunteers from the MARA University of Technology (UiTM) were accompanied by lecturers and students of the Business Education study program, Faculty of Economics and Business Education, UPI. Activities carried out in Cikole Village include sharing donations for 110 families from 4 RTs in Cikole, Lembang, traveling to see tomato, mustard, strawberry and arben plantations, as well as a story book reading program. More than 70 children were involved in reading model story books. The visit to plantations was responded positively by the participants and was very enthusiastic by joining with the farmers to learn how to grow crops.

According to Mohd Ismail Abidin, Palapes Association Advisor who is also a Senior Librarian at PTAR Jasin, more than RM8000 was received from various individuals to make this project a success.

The donations given to residents of Cikole village, Lembang are in the form of basic needs (rice, sugar, salt, cooking oil, biscuits and others). To meet the needs of children in Cikole village, Lembang, they also provided some supplies such as scarves, iqra books, juz amma, snacks and soft drinks as well as children’s books. And the purpose of the exemplary story reading program is to encourage reading activities in children.
