Students of Business Education study program come from various islands and provinces in Indonesia. Moreover, the study program currently has two international students from Malaysia.

With regard to bridging courses, the undergraduate programs do not offer bridging courses to new students. The Postgraduate program however provides bridging course for students having non-linear first degree.

Progression

Students’ academic progress is monitored through academic guidance/supervision by students’ academic supervisor and is informed to students’ parents/guardians. Academic guidance/supervision are conducted in accordance with Rector’s Regulation Number 644/UN40/HK/2017 on the 2017 UPI Education Implementation Guidelines and Online Supervision Guidelines. The supervision is implemented through face-to-face meetings and SIAK (Academic and Student Information System. Academic supervision is conducted every semester at the beginning, in the middle of and at the end of the semester. It consists of academic guidance and the monitoring of students’ academic progress. In the Master Program of Economics Education, students’ supervision is geared towards the completion of the required credits (courses), the qualifying exam, thesis proposal examination, and the thesis writing supervision. The thesis writing supervision period is six months and can be extended for another six months. In cases where students unable to complete their thesis writing within the specified period, their academic supervisor will communicate with the head of the study program to discuss the issue and find a mutually agreed solution. The Head of the Study Program also monitor students’ progress through the online students directory (SIDIMAS). The directory consists of some important data (student’s statistics) such as the number of registered students, the number of graduates each year and the number of drop out students. The following tables show relevant students statistics of all the study programs.

In general, the average study completion time over the last 4 years has increased. The average study completion time in 2020 is 4.6 years, meaning that students complete their studies in semester 9. Using the Education Efficiency Number (EEN) as a reference, it is clear that the study completion time of the undergraduate programs belonging to the Economics and Business Education cluster is in the very good category.

Table 5. Education Efficiency Number (EEN)

Duration of study AEE Category

Graduates have an average cumulative GPA score of 3.39 – 3.46 from a scale of 4, which is categorized as high and is above the average GPA set by the University. Various data related to this can be seen from the achievement of the Activity Performance Indicators for each Study Program.

The monitoring process may help reduce the number of students who resign. In the data for class 2013 to 2016, the average number of students who successfully finished their studies is 94%. The ratio of students who can complete their studies is 91.76% of the total admissions each year. On average, students can complete their studies in about 4 years and 5 months or the equivalent of 8 to 9 semesters.

The university strongly supports student mobilization in internationalization activities both student and academic activities. The internationalization activities are coordinated by the Directorate of International Affairs (DIA). The Study Program provides support in the form of immersion activity programs, credit transfers, and student exchanges. The university is supportive of student activities in both academic activities and other student activities, which are carried out at home and abroad. In this case, UPI has formed a Directorate of Student Affairs as an important part of facilitating and supporting student activities. The campus through the directorate of student affairs usually facilitates several student activities at both national and international levels and collaborates with study programs in the selection of the participants. Moreover, to improve students’ foreign language skills, especially English which is important for students to be able to participate in international events, foreign language training is provided through the Language Center.

The university strongly supports student activities in a systematic and structured manner. The Vice Rector for Education and Student Affairs, the Directorate of Student Affairs, at the university level, the vice dean for student affairs, at the faculty level, and student’s affairs advisors at the study program level, strongly confirm the support.

Recognition

The study programs that belong to the Economics and Business Education Cluster have implemented several internationally recognized programs in order to increase recognition from related parties. Activities that reflect international recognition is, among others, the SEA-TVET International Internship Program in Malaysia in 2018 and 2019. In 2018, some students did an internship at the Sultan Azlan Shah Polytechnic. In 2019, some students also conducted internships at Sultan Azlan Shah Polytechnic, Che Wan Consultancy BHD Malaysia, Batangas Philippines, and Banko Kebayan. Moreover, some students also participated in International Conferences held in Indonesia (Bandung and Surabaya) and abroad (Malaysia, and England). Furthermore, some students also participated in international leadership programs in South Korea, Singapore, and Malaysia. For students of the graduate program, the University has a transfer credit policy especially for students who are running immersion programs or student exchanges. Details of the policy are available in UPI’s academic guidelines. However, until now the economic education study program has not implemented this program.

Several students have participated in teaching practicum program abroad, such as the SEA-Teacher activities. The SEA-Teacher program is one of the programs of the SEAMEO (Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization), an organization engaged in, among others, the education and teaching practicum activities held in Indonesian schools abroad (PPL SILN). Several education institutions that have been involved in the teaching practicum program are Senior High School – University of Santo Tomas Manila Philippines, NEUST Philippines Laboratory School, and Davao Philippines Indonesian School.

In addition to the above-mentioned programs, student exchange activities are currently being implemented through the MBKM scheme as an implementation of The Regulation of Minister of Education and Culture Number 3 of 2020 on National Higher Education Standards. The learning process in the MBKM is a manifestation of student centered learning, which is very essential, as a response to the developments in science and technology that demand changes in the education system to adapt to the times. MBKM aims to increase the competence of graduates, both soft skills and hard skills, to be more ready and relevant to the needs of the times, to prepare graduates to become future leaders of the nation.

The implementation of MBKM at UPI is outlined in the Rector’s Regulation Number 0043 of 2020 on the Implementation of MBKM at UPI. Through MBKM student exchanges become more open through the various activities of student exchange programs between tertiary institutions at home and abroad. One of the program activities that have been running since 2014 is PERMATA (Nusantara Student Exchange), and in line with the MBKM policy, the PERMATA program has been expanded with various other PERMATA programs, such as PERMATA Sakti and PERMATA Mandiri, as well as other forms of student exchange.

In the management and implementation of the student’s exchange program of MBKM, the study programs have closely cooperated with study programs in partner universities in Indonesia, such as Jember University, Semarang State University and Surabaya State University, Malang State University, Mulawarman University, Tadulako University, Brawijaya University and others. This program was conducted more intensively in 2020, with some students took classes in partner universities. Moreover, lecturers from partner universities also took part in teaching some classes in study programs at FPEB.

The study program admits transfer students on the condition that they come from a linear study program in the field of economics and business education as indicated by the academic transcript. The transfer student’s admission follows the transfer student admission procedure consisting of three mechanisms, namely (1) Students coming from study program of similar discipline may have courses conversion, (2) students from different discipline are required to take all the courses offered, (3) Students of students exchange program should have a legal status as a student. Moreover, informal education is also recognized and is implemented in accordance with the relevant provision on diploma supplement (SKPI-Surat Keterangan Pendamping Ijazah)*.

The Study Programs provide equal opportunities to all students regardless of their financial status. This is implemented, among others, by accepting underprivileged students through Bidik Misi scholarships of which the number is at least 8% of the total number of students accepted. In addition, the study programs also allocate funds from the Study Program’s Revenue and Expenditure Budget and Annual Activity Plan (RKAT) to help underprivileged students. The study programs also implement various policies that use UPI’s facilities to meet the special needs of students. For students who already have children, UPI Daycare is provided for childcare. For students who need medical treatment, UPI healthcare polyclinic provides free medical treatment.

Certification

Graduates of the postgraduate program of Economics Education receive the degree of Master of Education (M.Pd. – Magister Pendidikan) in economics education. Moreover, students who successfully finish their studies on time, earn a minimum GPA of 3.75 and write a published journal article in a Scopus-indexed journal are eligible for the Cum Laude honor. Graduates of the Master Program in Economics Education will receive (1) degree certificate, (2) transcript and (3) SKPI.

Undergraduate students will get a degree according to the study program in which they study. Moreover, their cumulative GPA serves as the basis for the graduation honors (see Table 8).
